Double page spread shots: For my double page spread I have positioned my model to sit on a chair whist playing his guitar. The setting I chose shows key iconography of the Indie Rock genre. In the background audience can see shelves of records. I chose the guitar in which my model used for the pictures, this was a vintage Gibson 1964 guitar. This certain guitar is typically associated with the Rock and Indie Rock genre. I chose to use this guitar for my photographs because of what genre it shows. Also the fact that it is red was another reason for my decision. As in my beginning draft designs I had used a lot of red within the designs, in things such as title, copy and shapes. So I thought this would be my best choice for an instrument.

Front cover shots: I decided on the compostion and clothing style that my model had. I chose a brown tweed jacket, white shirt and tie, casual skinny jeans and smart brown leather shoes. Typically this is the way which a person interested and linked into the Indie Rock genre dresses. I knew this is the type of style that i wanted to use, this was infuenced by my research into the representation of the Indie Rock Genre. I tried 3 different kind of compositions which were a white background with the model standing and posing. The next was one where the model sits on some steps posing with the guitar. And the last one was the model standing up against a dark wooden background.

Test Shots

I took some test shots at my chosen location and some of the surroundings. This was done to test the lighting within the room to see how the photographs would come out. In the first shot the flash was not on and you can see how the photo is not very clear or sharp, but in the other shots when the flash was on it made the location look better. My chosen location is my cousins flat, which is...... and has been refurbised into flats. Previous Gig Photography

In the past I have been to many gigs and taken photos. Here are a selections of photographs from the different gigs that i have been to. The bands within these photos are: The Kooks, Tribes, The Wombats, Noel Gallagher and The High Flying Birds, Static Jacks, Graham Coxon. All of these bands are within the Indie Genre so I could use them in my magazine contents page to enable to fill up the space and show variety of locations. Sometimes it is very hard to take clear photographs at a gig when you're in a crowd of people because the camera is unable to stay still. If I do use any of these photographs in my magazine i will analyse which ones are the clearest and would work will in my magazine.

Location Choice

These are some location photos which were taken previously to the shoot. It was previously a vicars parish which has been convented into flats, outside there are old 2 listed folly's which had been build in the past. I chose this location because of the dark wooden wall panelling, wooden floor boards, fireplace and vintage furniture. This certain style of setting is perfect for my double page spread shoot because of the key iconography that it shows which represents the Indie Rock genre.

Image Composition Ideas

These are my ideas for the composition and layout of my images which I will take. This research has helped me develop my ideas which I will go on to produce behind and infront of the camera.

Font Styles

Here are different examples of fonts that I have chosen that I think will work well for different elements and furniture for my magazine.

Colour Palettes

I have looked and arranged 3 different colour palettes which I could use for the house style of my magazine. I have decided to use colour palettes 3 as it develops the existing house styles in existing magazines, but the oranges in the palette challenge conventional styles from the current media products in the existing market.

Magazine Title Questionaire

Photography: The Darkness

On the 7th March I went to The Darkness gig at Hammersmith Apollo London, The Darkness are a Glam Rock band. Their support band was called Ginger Wildheart which were a Rock Band. The three first images are of the support band, the lead singer had a Fender Telecaster which is a guitar usually represented with the Indie genre. Therefore one of the images of Ginger Wildheart would work well in my magazine. As The Darkness still fit within the Rock genre I could still use some of the images in my magazine. The photographs didnt turn out that great becasue indside the venue you aren't allowed to take in SLR cameras so I had to use the camera on my phone instead. Also because of being in a pushing crowd of people it was hard to keep the camera still so quite a few of the images came out blurry. For the images that came out clear I will consider editing them and maybe useing them in my magazine.

Institution

The institution which my magazine would be created by would be a magazine publisher and distributor. I have based my music magazine around the Indie rock genre. This would be the music target audience I would be aiming my magazine at. Some elements and iconography from other typical music magazines could be inappropriate for a certain institution as they may publish magazines that have a completely different genre, for example fashion magazines. Because it is based on indie rock and it has a certain look and key iconography about it. This is shown in the way they dress and the musical instruments they use. For example if I used stereotypes from a Pop genre magazine it would not fit in with the style chosen for my magazine. Such as in my chosen genre of music magazine it would be inappropriate to add stories or cover lines with articles including artists or bands from another music genre such as Rap or Pop. It would be unrelated to the fact it were an Indie rock magazine. If there were any unrelated topics in the magazine it may lose the audience it was originally targeted at, and they may complain. So everything created has to be appropriate towards the indie rock style. This is what consists of the indie rock music magazine being the published within a certain institution, you have to plan and produce consistently within that genre. Include the correct topics and articles, and create a well designed magazine to attract the target audience within the institution that it was distributed by.

Here are some examples of different magazine institutions:
IPC Media and Bauer Media are the UK's and world's leading media publishers as distributors. these are the types of institutions that would own my magazine as these consumers already own a few music magazines currently.

Audience

Here is a Slide Share presentation I made to show the audeince for the Indie Rock genre.

Representation of Indie Rock

Here I have created a mood board using Internet found images from Google, this represents the style of clothing and the ways in that Indie Rock is represented in the music industry. I also created a Prezi presentation about the representation of Indie Rock (bellow the image).

Chosen Music Genre

I have chosen to use the music genre of Indie rock as the main subject for my magazine. This is because it is my favourite genre of music, I know it well and understand the key iconography of the genre. This insight to the genre will help me design and create the cover, contents and double page spread of my music magazine.

These are some photographs I took of my Cd's, as you can see I mainly listen to Indie Rock bands, Its my favourite genre of music. Also here are a selection of gig tickets and wristbands from previous gigs that I've been to in the past ranging from different types of Indie music. I think my insight to the genre is a big advantage for me in creating a realist Indie Rock Magazine.
