Institution

The institution which my magazine would be created by would be a magazine publisher and distributor. I have based my music magazine around the Indie rock genre. This would be the music target audience I would be aiming my magazine at. Some elements and iconography from other typical music magazines could be inappropriate for a certain institution as they may publish magazines that have a completely different genre, for example fashion magazines. Because it is based on indie rock and it has a certain look and key iconography about it. This is shown in the way they dress and the musical instruments they use. For example if I used stereotypes from a Pop genre magazine it would not fit in with the style chosen for my magazine. Such as in my chosen genre of music magazine it would be inappropriate to add stories or cover lines with articles including artists or bands from another music genre such as Rap or Pop. It would be unrelated to the fact it were an Indie rock magazine. If there were any unrelated topics in the magazine it may lose the audience it was originally targeted at, and they may complain. So everything created has to be appropriate towards the indie rock style. This is what consists of the indie rock music magazine being the published within a certain institution, you have to plan and produce consistently within that genre. Include the correct topics and articles, and create a well designed magazine to attract the target audience within the institution that it was distributed by.

Here are some examples of different magazine institutions:
IPC Media and Bauer Media are the UK's and world's leading media publishers as distributors. these are the types of institutions that would own my magazine as these consumers already own a few music magazines currently.
